You’re Invited to Pilot our “Know Your Normal” Patch Program

We’re Seeking Girl Scout Troops to Launch a New Breast Health Initiative for Teens

Many breast cancer awareness campaigns you’ve probably seen this October, focus on pink ribbons and statistics. But for many young people, real awareness starts with a question no one ever taught them to ask:

“What’s normal for my body?”

Awareness is an incredible start, but it is only the beginning.

Real impact happens when youth are equipped with knowledge, confidence and tools to advocate for their own health. That’s why we’re proud to introduce Know Your Normal — a first-of-its-kind patch program.

This pilot project invites middle school and high school troops to learn early breast health basics through an engaging and age-appropriate program built around real stories. Stories like Juliette Gordon Low’s — The Girl Scouts of America founder, who passed away from the disease.

We invite you to learn more about this pilot program and join us as we honor Juliette’s memory and promote personal health at every age.

About The “Know Your Normal” Patch Program

It Isn’t Just A Badge, It’s A Beginning

Through engaging age-appropriate activities, groups will explore how body awareness, health habits and self-advocacy can be lifelong tools. The program thoughtfully introduces concepts like breast self-awareness, risk factors and early detection in a way that feels empowering — not overwhelming or elementary.

Along the way, participants are encouraged to reflect, ask questions and build confidence in their own bodies and voices.

90 Minutes | Free of Charge

  • Materials: A detailed Leader Resource Guide provides everything needed to complete the program, with supplies already in your closet. Each member will also receive clings to help others know their normal.
  • Focus: Awareness, empowerment and healthy habits (not self-diagnosis or medical exams).

After Program Completion

Facilitators and group leaders will be invited to complete a short feedback form, sharing their thoughts and recommendations. Once the survey is submitted, participants will receive a unique fun patch for their uniforms that will act as a powerful reminder of what they learned, the confidence they gained, and how to further encourage others to know their normal.

How To Participate in the Pilot

We’re excited to open this pilot to a limited number of troops. If selected, your feedback will help shape the future of this important program, ensuring that it continues to serve youth with meaningful, age-appropriate, and empowering tools for self-awareness.

If you are interested in being part of the Know Your Normal Pilot Program, please sign up using our brief interest form here:

All Troops Can Share In This Mission

Even if your troop isn’t selected for the pilot, all interested leaders will be notified when the official Know Your Normal Patch Program launches. Any scouting or youth-serving group will be invited to participate at that time.

Together, we can help young people grow up confident, informed, and proactive about their health — because to “Know Your Normal” is the first step to thriving beyond without breast cancer.

About Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer

Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer is a nonprofit that supports women ages 21–40 through financial relief, mental health resources, bespoke chemotherapy care kits and community-led care. Our mission is rooted in empowering young women to thrive during and after their breast cancer diagnosis.

Education, advocacy and empowerment at a young age are vital to health. It’s why we’re honored to support this patch pilot, launched by Girl Scout Claire Stoeckel, who shared her vision on stage at our 2025 TBBC Gala this past April.
